Old Mill Inn Alto Pass, IL
The Old Mill Inn Alto Pass, IL along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, initially established in 1888 as the Alto Pass Milling Company. Furthermore, its signature product was Pride of Alto Flour. Not only was grain processed in the mill, but the steam engine produced electricity in the 1900’s sold to other merchants in the village. Additionally, the Mill is the oldest standing business building left in the Village of Alto Pass. Notably, some of the original beams can be seen in the café and upstairs.
Over the years, the building has been used for many things, including a hardware & lumber store. In the same fashion, an electrical/appliance store, an antique shop and on the 3rd and 4th floors baskets were manufactured. Baskets used by the orchards to ship their produce. The Mill has changed hands several times during the years but has always maintained some type of business.
Current owners are Mike & Dottie Jeremiah who have converted the Mill into a Bed & Breakfast and a quaint 1900’s café. They serve excellent Pies and an array of Fudge. They have just completed a courtyard type patio on one side of the building. The charm of the Old Mill invites all to enter and enjoy. This is a great stop for anyone visiting Southern Illinois and the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail.
